Default search does not bring up keyboard

I am trying to determine if this is a bug or not. When using the WAT out of the box (no config changes), tapping into the search box does not bring up the keyboard. I tried this on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

I have not investigated why this is the case but thought I would post.

I haven't caught this yet, so when you say default behavior, do you mean the onscreen or the charm? Also what version of framework are you using (in should tell you in the new project window when you choose a web app template app). And device?

WAT Framework is 2.2
Device is Surface Pro 3 running Win 8.1 - totally up to date.
I also tried it on Windows 10 Tech Preview on Surface.

Steps to reproduce
  1. Create new project using WAT template (universal app)
  2. Copy over config.sample.json to config.json
  3. make sure search is set to true
    "wat_search": {
    "enabled": true,
    "searchURL": "{searchTerm}",
    "useOnScreenSearchBox": true,
    "onScreenSearchOptions": {
        "chooseSuggestionOnEnter": false,
        "focusOnKeyboardInput": false,
        "placeholderText": "What are you looking for?",
        "searchHistoryDisabled": false
  4. Run app.
  5. Tap in search box.
  6. works when physical keyboard is attached. when taken off, on screen keybord does not pop up.
I tried rebooting machine without the keyboard, fired up the app and keyboard still does not pop up. I also changed focusOnKeyboardInput to true and still no luck.

I am going to try it out on a DVP 8" soon.
